Sagimusume" (White-egret maiden) is a Buyo for Nagauta music, first performed as a part of a Hengebuyo (transformation dances) in which a single actor continuously dances various roles. At present, however, "Sagimusume" is performed as an independent work. This dance depicts the incarnation of a white egret in the figure of a girl dancing in the falling snow and expressing various feelings and emotions related to love. Near the Makugire (end of act), she shows most beautifully the hellish torture of unrequited love. "Sagimusume" has been regularly performed since Ichikawa Danjuro 9th revived it in the Meiji period, and has now become one of the most important dances in the Onnagata Buyo repertoire. Shipping
