We are very pleased to be able to offer this highly unusual hand made woodblock print by Chikanobu Hashimoto (1838-1912). "Musume Sugata" (The Figure of The Woman) this is recarved edition. First printed Meiji 30 nen (1897). Signed on the left of image. This elegant larger recarved edition by Soudosha Publishers from a limited edition series of only 980 sheets and published on October 1, 1977. The paper measures about 11 and 1/8 inches by 16 inches and is beautifully embossed, please see pictures. Once tipped to original presentation folder. Pristine Condition. Flawless, bright colors with fill margins. Please see superb details. Please notice mouse in hair ornament. Wonderful Japanese woodblock print. One of Chikanobu's more popular and recognized works. Chikanobu created 36 sheets Bijin -ga set "Shinbijin", all Bijin-ga prints with Meiji era customs. This set is called the best masterpiece in his life. This print is one of them.


Hashimoto Chikanobu (1838-1912) was known by several names, originally as Hashimoto Tadayoshi, then in accordance with naming practices of the day, he was later given his artist name of Chikanobu by his master Toyohara Kuichika.
