Original signed limited edition by Clifton Karhu. Sheet number 41/100 dated '85.  Title "SHIGURE"  as printed and published by the artist in 1985. This building is very famous restaurant "Shigure jaya - WABISUKE" (Tea Room for Autumn Shower (rain) - WABISUKE ) in Kyoto. "Shigure" 時雨 means "Autumn shower". Clifton put restaurant name "Wabisuke"侘助 in the Noren cloth and the sign in front. Clifton and this restaurant have very closed relation by same strong thought and wish for this style Kyoto architecture. This restaurant and Clifton both wish old Kyoto houses remains now and in the future. He designed their SAKE bottle labeles or calendars etc.... Also they decorate with many of his prints inside restaurant. They work together very well. (This is typical Japanese business relationship).
I feel his warm feelings for this beautiful Kyoto's restaurant and he put this same feelings into this print.

Extremely Rare Very Large Print. This print is one print of very popular Karhu's prints. Signed, titled, and numbered by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Paper size is 29 inches wide by 12 and 1/2 inches tall. Masterful use of colors in this rare earlier Karhu print represents a prime original example of this famous artists works. Very bold and beautiful colors. Condition is outstanding for it's age. Once framed. Tape residued on verso. Very faint mat burn and slightly waving on the both side margin which would mat out beautifully. This print shows traditional Kyoto's house. The interior lights of this restaurant in the dark is very tasteful and heartwarming. The exterior lights add to the inviting atmosphere.

Clifton Karhu passed away in 2007. Now seldom is original Clifton Karhu print for sale. This Limited edition of only 100 sheets is very difficult to obtain.
