Original signed limited edition by Clifton Karhu. Edition 5/100 dated '89.  " COUNTRY LANE "  as printed and published by the artist in 1989. Signed, titled, and numbered by the artist in pencil along the lower margin.  Paper size is 17 and 5/8 inches by 18 inches. Image size 16 inches by 16 inches. Matted but not framed. (We have beautiful wooden Japanese frame, but not original. If you want we can send frame together. However we will ask additional shipping cost) Masterful use of colors in this rare earlier Karhu print represents a prime original example of this famous artists works. Bold, beautiful and impressive. Condition is outstanding for it's age. Some ink smudge into margins, tape on verso. Please see pictures carefully. Seldom is original Clifton Karhu print for sale. Karhu's prints are becoming increasingly hard to find.

Clifton Karhu was born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1927. From 1946 to 1948 he was stationed in Sasebo, an American navy base in Japan - located between Nagasaki and Fukuoka. He returned toUSA and studied at the Minneapolis Art School from 1950 to 1952. He the returned to Japan as a missionary and made extensive travels through Japan - Kyoto, Shiga and Hiroshima prefecture. In 1963 he moved to Kyoto and got interested in woodblock prints. Karhu mostly carves and prints himself. His subjects are typical Japanese scenes.
