This Hokusai print belongs in a series titled "Furyu Nakute Nana Kuse" which can be literally translated "Everybody has at least seven peculiarities". The title indicates that the series comprised seven prints, although only two of them are known to exist in the original today. (The other, owned by Kobe's Namban Museum, is subtitled "Telescope"). Ground Cherry, or Hozuki in Japanese, bears a signature reading Kako, a pseudonym used by Hokusai between 1798 and 1811.
