"Yuki no Miyajima" (Snow at Miyajima) by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957).  First printed 1929 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai (1929-30, company dissolved in 1931); this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. This print is almost thirty years old, printed mid 1980's to 1990's on old paper. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950.
Please note this sale is for one sheet only, the handmade heavyweight older paper. The mellower, toned, mature print on thicker paper as seen in the pictures. The colors appear richer, softer, and more mellow. The more bright print on thin paper is more newer and not included in this sale. Pictures are for reference only. Signed Kawase Hasui with red artist seal "sui".  Bottom margin contains Title "Yuki no Miyajima" and date "Showa 4nen 7 gatsu saku"(Printed July in 1929) in Japanese. Perfect condition, never framed, no flaws noted and full margins. Old master quality. Paper size is 11 and 1/4 inches by 16 and 1/4inches. Wonderful shading and lifelike reflection on the water. Highly detailed with skilful shading. Very Japanese mood.  A true classic Hasui print of the highest order. This print has a most peaceful quality. This auction is for the older print only which is most difficult to find and highly desirable to the advanced collector as the old master printer passed away long ago.
