"Shinagawa"(Rainy Season at Ryoshimachi, Shinagawa) by Kawase
Hasui (1883-1957). "Ryoshimachi" means "The town where the
fisherman lives in". First printed 1931 (Showa 6 nen); this is a later
printing from original blocks. Signed "Hasui" with red artist
seal "sui". Right margin contains title "Shinagawa"(this
is town name) and "Showa 6 nen 3 gatsu saku"(printed March 1931)
in Japanese. New condition, never framed and full margins. Extremely faint
tiny ink smudge into margins which is very common and easily matted out.
Please see the picture. Published by Watanabe with Watanabe "Heisei"
Seal. Very wonderful "bokashi" shading through print with finely
carved details. Old master quality. Paper size is 10 and 1/2 inches by
15 and 5/8 inches. Very Japanese mood. A true classic Hasui print of the
highest order. |
