"Matsu no Yukibare" (After Snow in the Pines) by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). Very nice example Hasui's early work with nice shading to snowflakes and accumulation. Beautiful details to trees and their limbs. Very interesting colors in sky. First printed 1929 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai (1929-30, company dissolved in 1931); this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. This print is almost twenty years old, printed late1980's to 1990's on old paper. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Signed Hasui with red artist seal "sui". Bottom margin contains Title "Matsu no Yukibare" and date "Showa 4nen 8 gatsu saku"(Printed August in 1929) in Japanese. Pristine condition, never framed, no flaws noted and full margins. Tiny ink smudge into right margin which is very common and will be easily mat out. Old master quality. Paper size is 11 and 1/8 inches by 16 and 1/4 inches. Very Japanese mood. A true classic Hasui print of the highest order. This print has a most peaceful quality.
