"Cyclamen" by Konan Tanigami (1879~1928). First printed in about
1917; this is a later printing from original blocks. This print is one
print of "Saika" series (six selections of Western flowers).
Excellent condition. Paper size is 16 by 11 inches. Published by Unsodo.
Unsodo "Gei watermark" upper left margin corner. Carver was Nagashima
and printer was Shinmi. Red artist seal lower right of image and Unsodo
publisher seal on the lower right margin. Excellent shading and ink bleed
through. Genuine Japanese woodblock print. Wonderful details. Very minor
typical Unsodo printer's "smudge". Please see the picture. Undated.
It has original presentation folder. Very beautiful flower print.
Konan Tanigami was born 1879 in Hyogo prefecture. He is well known "Birds
and flowers" Nihon-ga artist. He was first Japanese to paint Western flowers and
established a dynamic painting of flowers and birds.
Konan Tanigami produced five volumes of pictures of Western Plants which
were published by Unsodo 1917/18. In 1917 he was selected to produce a series of
peony prints for the Teiten (Imperial Exhibition). He is one of Japan's most
famous naturalist artist.
