wrinkle in paper as seen in upper left of image which do not effect image.
One must be very close to see. Not noticeable to the casual observer. Signature
"Zen Hokusai I'itsu hitsu" on the lower left of image. "Takamizawa"

Mitsuo" printer seal on the verso. Very Japanese mood. It

print.
Hokusai did his "flowers and birds" either in large
horizontal framed or in medium - sized vertical ones. In both cases, his
"flowers and birds" bear strong influences of Chinese schools of painting marked
with realistic touches - unlike Hiroshige's which are plain and lightcolored.
They remind us of the patterns in dyed cloths woven by the Chinese during the
Ming dynasty. The luxurious touch of this Hokusai work seems to show the extent
of cultural ripeness attained by the Japanese under the Tokugawa
shogunate.
This reproduction is based on a well - preserved original in the Gale collection of the United States.
