The cherry blossom is a
very delicate flower that blooms for a very short time. For the Japanese this
represents the transience of life. For the Japanese falling cherry blossoms have
a very deep and often romantic meaning. In ancient Japan the Deity of the
Mountains, the most powerful of all deities, came down to the rice patties on
the petals of the cherry blossoms to offer his soul, embodied in the rice gains,
to humans, who would grow the grains of rice to full maturity and give the Deity
a return gift of multiplied seeds in the fall. Generally cherry blossoms
symbolize a celebration of life. The beauty and delicate nature of a cherry
blossom can't be denied. The cherry blossom is a very delicate flower that
