edition dated showa 26nen (1951). Excellent condition. Paper size is 10
and 3/4 x 16 inch. Published by Unsodo. Unsodo seal in right margin
and Gei watermark in left margin. Left margin top Title "Sakura",
signature "Kawarazaki Shodo" as the artist and lower left is
date "Showa 26 nen". "Shodo" characters in lower left
of image. Genuine Japanese woodblock print. Wonderful details with typical
faint Unsodo printer's "smudge" in margins. Once lightly tipped
to presentation folder. Very beautiful print. Extremely Hard to find Shodo's
first edition print.
The cherry blossom is a very delicate flower that blooms for a very
short time. For the Japanese this represents the transience of life. For the
Japanese falling cherry blossoms have a very deep and often romantic meaning. In
ancient Japan the Deity of the Mountains, the most powerful of all deities, came
down to the rice patties on the petals of the cherry blossoms to offer his soul,
embodied in the rice gains, to humans, who would grow the grains of rice to full
maturity and give the Deity a return gift of multiplied seeds in the fall.
Generally cherry blossoms symbolize a celebration of life. The beauty and
delicate nature of a cherry blossom can't be denied. The cherry blossom is a
very delicate flower that blooms for a very short time. For the Japanese this
represents the transience of
life.
