"FUSHIMI NO SHOUKA"
(A Merchant House at Fushimi, Kyoto)
From Artist's Very Early Period 1973
edition:AP

$250

"Fushimi no Shouka" (A Merchant House at Fushimi, Kyoto) by Katsuyuki Nishijima. This shop is very traditional Japanese Sake store. Noren cloth says "Sake". Wooden sign says "Fushimi no Sake"(Sake of Fushimi). Fushimi is well known as "Sake" town. From my own private collection comes this very early work, never before offered to the public. Ca: 1973. This AP (Artist Proof) is one of only a few known to exist. Limited Edition sizes of only 500 individually numbered sheets were ever produced. Long out of print. Long sold out. Pristine condition, never framed. Wonderful details with strong excellent bold colors and strong ink bleed through. Typical tiny ink smudge on the margins and slightly paper edge waving which are very common for old prints like this and will be easily mat out. Please see picture very carefully. Genuine handmade Japanese woodblock print. Hand signed in pencil, hand written "AP", hand titled in Japanese by artist. With artist official red "Nishijima" seal. Large size: Height is 18 and 1/4 inches and width is 13 and 3/8 inches. Please note size is a little larger that his later prints. Nishijima started offering prints in 1972; this is the 16th subject he produced. Sorry but we have only this one rare copy to offer.

Very bold and impressive. When we compare these Nishijima's early work and present work,  you can see Nishijima's skill progresses obviously. For collectors this is very interesting. Now almost impossible to find his old prints, Specially out of print like this print.
