- Japanese Woodblock Print -

 "Doma kara no Fukei"
(The scenery from earthen floor)

$199

We are very pleased to be able to offer this fine woodblock print "Doma kara no Fukei"(The scenery from earthen floor) by Teruhide Kato (1936-). Artist signed "Teruhide Kato" by pencile on the lower right image. Outstanding condition. Very tiny ink smudge on the right margin which will be easily mat out. Nice ink bleed through. The paper measures about 8 and 1/2 inches by 17 and 5/8 inches. Nice composition. Very Japanese "Kyoto" mood.

Teruhide Kato had studied at Kyoto Art College. He was a famous kimono fashion designer. When he was 50 years old, he decided to follow his real passion, and became a traditional Kyoto woodblock artist. Success remained with the artist. After a gallery exhibition in New York and a book publication of his works titled "Kyoto Romance" he is as famous as a woodblock artist as he used to be as a kimono designer.
