Very rare design original limited edition by Jiro Takidaira (1921-2009). His
woodblock prints seldom every seen offered for sale. Jiro's primary focus was his world
famous children's books; rarely did he make a woodblock print. This is
a large format Limited Edition hand numbered 168/300 and signed
in lower rightt of image in pencil by the artist. Also hand numbered 168/300
on the left bottom margin. Paper size: 15 and 3/4 inches by 8 and 7/8 inches.
Good condition for the age (Showa period) with full margins, bold colors.
Once framed. Slightly toned and tape residues as shown. Strong texture
on Japanese washi paper. Limited edition of only 300 prints. Sought
after as collector's item rarely offered inside or outside of Japan.
Jiro Takidaira was born in Ibaragi, Japan in 1921. He was soon influenced by
the moku-hanga (woodblock print) movement. After WW II, he exhibited in
international shows in Tokyo, New York and China. He is well known as an
illustrator for children's books. Also he is most famous Japanese
"Kiri-e"(Paper-Cut Art) artist. He passed away in May 16, 2009 at 88 years
old.
