"KOSODEMAKU"(A wadded silk garment used as a curtain)this extremely rare woodblock by Tatsumi Shimura (1907-1980). No Edition number on this print which indicates it was an "HC" (Hors d'Commerce Proof) which was never used. "HC" refers to an article that is not for sale. Usually refers to print identical to the edition print intended to be used as samples to show to dealers and galleries or retained by the publisher as a prime example of this work. Extremely rare to see one not signed. Tatsumi prints are rarely seen in Japan and nearly impossible to find outside of Japan as Tatsumi prints are extremely rare, highly cherished in Japan and seldom sold. We thinks this print has never been seen outside of Japan. It was first time for us to see this print. Tatsumi specialized in bijin ga - prints of beautiful women. He is most famous for his series "Five Figures of Modern Beauties".

We are not sure how many sheets were printed this limited edition print, mostly likely 250 or 450 which is typical this publisher. We know surely it was a Limited Edition. Carver; Kentaro Maeda, Printer; Ritsuzo Sato, and Publisher; Yuyudo. Size is large: paper size is 19 and 1/2 inches by 16 and 1/8 inches. Artist signature and personal seal located in lower right of image. Large red "Tatsumi Kenin" seal in lower margin reads, "Tatsumi seal of approval". Colors are vivid and vibrant and in layers. Absolutely stunning original hand Japanese made woodblock print. Outstanding condition. Pristine except for one extremely tiny foxing into right margin, not noticeable to the casual observer. Rarely do we find these old prints in this nearly perfect condition. Additional pictures gladly provided upon request. There is an excellent examples of Tatsumi's work at the Tokyo National Modern Fine Art Museum.
